Air Defense: A System of Systems for Countering Penetration

An IADS is a system of equipment, personnel, procedures, and weapons used to counter airborne penetration of one's own claimed territory. It is an amalgam of elements that are organized to minimize threats in the air domain. An IADS performs three functions.

Five specific sub-functions are included in air surveillance alone. Air defense systems often have air defense systems that are called air defense systems. The radar will detect an aircraft entering the IADS area, while the "initiate" function transforms the radar back into a track.

The track is looked at and categorized as friend, foe, or unknown. The battle management aspect of an IADS includes four functions. Battle management is when you identify a threat and act against it.

Battle management makes a determination that a given radar track is a threat and then selects a weapon to counter it. The engagement authority is the final step in battle management that confirms the threat, engagement, and weapon selection decisions. Air defense is the act of protecting assets from threats from the air domain.

Some militaries approach air defense with a similar mindset. Integration allows for the three functions of an IADS to occur at the same time and multiple times. It allows parallel kill chains to occur concurrently within the broader system.
