Community Relations Specialists

A community relations specialist is a varied one that combines elements of relationship building, stakeholder management, fundraising and volunteer coordination. Their main goal is to build meaningful relationships with community groups. The community relations specialist is the main ambassador for the organization and their vision for the local community.

You will be able to build and maintain relationships with individuals and organizations that can support your employer's goals. A sports equipment manufacturer can develop partnerships by sponsoring local sports events or donating equipment to a local school. Community relations jobs include implementing community outreach programs, organizing events, coordinating volunteers, writing and releasing publicity material, and developing public relations strategies that promote the organization's mission.

You need to be a team player to build trust with various community groups and organizations. Community relations specialists work for nonprofits, educational institutions, governmental agencies and private companies. You will spend a lot of time in the community, but you will mostly be in an office.

Community Support Specialists

Community support specialists can help children and adults with mental illness. The worker determines the client's individual needs through outreach and collaboration. A community support specialist provides housing and other services.

You can have a rewarding career as a community support worker if you have a strong commitment to mental health advocacy. The community support specialist is important to deescalate a mental health crisis. Communication with family members or personal observations may be used to learn of the unstable behavior.

The specialist may try to convince the client to seek professional help on his own. The specialist may notify law enforcement or the client's psychologist if there is an emergency. The support specialist will visit the hospital to arrange the discharge of clients who are in the hospital.

There are a number of supervision options used by the agents to ensure that offenders are in compliance with the various conditions of supervision. The Department has expanded its supervision strategies with the introduction of the Omnibus Crime Reduction and Sentencing Reform Act of 2010. The Department has implemented evidence-based strategies in the past that include the use of an actuarial risk and needs assessment tool to assist with individualized case planning for moderate to high risk offenders, administrative monitoring for offenders who have completed traditional supervision and only have financial obligations, and the use of a special case

The Department uses other strategies that are geared towards specific offenders. The strategies include the Sex Offender Management program, the Supervised Reentry program, and the Interstate Compact program.
