They are employed through each state's fish, parks, and wildlife department, while federal fish and game wardens are employed as special agents with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The Unpredictability of Commercial Fishing in Alaska
The commercial fishing industry is not for the weak. Commercial fishing is ranked among the dirtiest and deadliest on job lists each year. Almost 95 percent of the US's salmon supply comes from Alaska's fisheries, which is why the stakes are higher.
The fishing industry in Alaska is the largest employer in the state with close to half of the private sector employment. The weather and waters can clash with the fury of angry Poseidon. Hauling up nets or cages weighing hundreds of pounds is hard work.
Add rain, waves and icy decks and that work becomes lethal. The waters of the state are more unforgiving than other fishing environments because of their geographical location. Crab fishing is the most unsafe within the Alaskan fishing industry.
Crab fishermen are the focus of the Discovery Channel show "Deadliest Catch", and they are one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. The Alaskan crab season lasts a few days or weeks during the fall and winter. The Gulf of Alaska and the Bering Sea are sandwiched between Alaska and Russia.
The largest fishing port in the United States, Dutch Harbor, has around 200 crab fishing boats ready to go. The winter season in the Bering Sea is dangerous. Crab fishing takes place in spurts during October and January, which is when salmon fishing season ends.

Fishing and Hunting Workers in the Environment

Fishing Hands
Fishing hands are responsible for maintaining nets, lines, pots and other fishing equipment on deep sea and inshore fishing vessels. Fishing hands clean the catch when nets and lines are hauled back on board. Crew members will help with maintenance and cleaning on most vessels.
Fishing hands can operate machinery, such as the winches to haul in nets, and electronic equipment. Fishing hands can spend weeks or months at sea, while those working inshore can work for a short time. They work in rough seas and storms.
Fishing hands must follow strict safety guidelines to protect themselves and their crewmates. They work long shifts at sea, which can last for days and nights. They work everyday at sea and have long breaks when they return to shore, which can last weeks or months.
