Community based mental health services: A review

A good understanding of the social factors that contribute to mental wellbeing and mental ill health is one of the things that general psychiatry has. Psychiatrists emphasize the importance of having a good therapeutic alliance with their patients and their families. They have a key leadership role in multi-disciplinary teams.

Psychiatrists with deep and broad training often take a lead role in establishing the strategic management plan for an individual patient, using their therapeutic skills to involve the patient and develop a constructive pathway to recovery. They may work with patients on their own. Most of the care for the mentally ill is delivered in community settings.

There are a number of different community based services. Eating Disorders and periNatal services are included in other specialist teams. The work is varied and interesting.

General adult psychiatrists work with patients of working age from 18 years old and can work in specialized teams or in more generic teams dealing with a range of different diagnoses. Most patients receive their help in the community. Treatment can include a combination of medication and psychological and social interventions.

The Assistant Medical Director Position at Tewksbury Hospital, Hathorne Unit

Tewksbury Hospital is in the process of becoming a model facility for providing recovery oriented, trauma informed, family focused, person centered and strength based clinical and rehabilitative treatment. Board certification is required.

Faculty members are expected to demonstrate excellence in one or more Areas of distinction that provide a unifying theme for their academic activities, achievements and scholarship, to demonstrate effectiveness in educational activities, and to participate in Academic Service. As an assistant medical director, you will be the chief physiciand clinician for the Hathorne units.

You will work closely with the facility director and other leadership of the hospital. You will be responsible for the care and treatment that is delivered by the clinical services. You will be in charge of the development, implementation, maintenance, monitoring and improvement of all clinical programs.

The National Council Medical Director Institute

The National Council reached out to organizations with outstanding leadership in shaping psychiatric and addictions service delivery to create the National Council Medical Director Institute. The Medical Director Institute is made up of members with diverse knowledge and experience and is used to advise National Council members on best clinical practices and develop policy and initiatives that serve member behavioral health organizations, their clinicians, and the governmental agencies and payers that support them. The MDI members have demonstrated skill in applying multiple sources of evidence that determine the standard of care, including peer-reviewed studies in academic journals, consensus guidelines from professional organizations, and guidelines and materials distributed by government agencies.
