The Macula of the Human Eye
The human eye must have a functioning part called the macula for a person's central vision to work. The yellow oval in the eye is the result of the macula being inside the eye's retina. The cones are the cells that look at colors and details.
The cones inside the macula are sensitive to light and produce fine details for clear vision and performing tasks such as reading. The range of vision referred to when a person is, as it is commonly described, seeing something out of the corner of his eye is called peripheral vision. Both types of vision are important for clear sight, but central vision is more important than peripheral vision.
